Because Darkness Covers The Earth It is Easy to Lose Sight of God’s Goodness
God’s Goodness and Faithfulness seem to be rare commodities in our world today. We live in a time when darkness covers the earth and deep darkness the people. In such times, it is easy to lose sight of the goodness and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.
Let me first point out that, if you are in search of these treasures of God in the world, you need to skip the daily news. It won’t be found there. Disaster sells newspapers. Destruction gets tons of Likes on Facebook.
God’s goodness and faithfulness are often skimmed over or hidden under the proverbial bushel, where no man can discern them.
It’s also true that in a season of contention and division in the world, God’s goodness and faithfulness are not frequently at the top of list of Hot News items. Remember, disaster sells, but goodness and faithfulness…not so much.
In Dark Times God Takes the Blame
In fact, what you hear in the dark times is: “Where is God now?”, “How could God let this happen?” or “The devil seems to have more say-so and power than God.” Truly, such attitudes and confessions break the heart of God.
Our God is a loving Father and a wonderful Creator. His purpose in relationship with us is and will always be to bless us. He is not the author of pain and destruction.
If we fail to see and hear that the goodness and faithfulness of our Father is all around us, we are listening to the wrong voices and hearing the wrong narrative.
No doubt our own frustrations will give us plenty of proof that we are missing out on the goodness of our loving, heavenly, Father. By reading the daily news, we can seal the deal that God’s goodness and faithfulness are not evident realities in this world we now live in.
Satan Seeks To Block God’s Paternal Identity
Let it never be said that our God is an absentee Father. One hundred percent of the time, He maintains a resolute stance that He is and will always be faithful to those who love HIM.
If this is not clear to you, a believer in Christ, then it is time to ask yourself why.
When God’s goodness and faithfulness are blocked from the believer’s comprehension, more often than not they are blocked by the lies of Satan.
God’s Goodness and Faithfulness Can Be Found in the Pages of the BIBLE!
Do you believe that it could be true that Satan’s lies might be blocking you from receiving God”s best in your life? If so, now would be a good time to change your perspective and focus on the TRUTH concerning the Love of your Father towards you.
Where do we go to find the truth about God? The Bible, the Word of God, will always be your first source.
God’s Word is a relatively large, deep, and complex document. The riches of it must be sought out like pure gold.
Once you get past the complexity of the Book, you will soon realize the simplicity, passion, and love that flows from the heart of God through His Word.
Take a Few Moments to Meditate on the God’s Goodness and Faithfulness
Let’s start with a short video that I made 7-years ago. Because the Word of God is timeless, its message is still vibrant and alive today.
As you meditate on each segment of the video, the essence of the 23rd Psalm will stir your heart. Let the words and the message go deeply into your heart of hearts.
Psalm 23: Your Point of Embarkation
To begin your search, open your Bible to Psalm 23. This passage of scripture portrays the goodness and faithfulness of God in the form of a Shepherd.
Because shepherds are not commonplace in today’s world, let me define the word. A shepherd is “one who leads, guides, guards, protects, and cares for another.”
When Christ, through the Holy Spirit, shepherds your life, you will lack for nothing. His love and mercy will lead you to an oasis where you will enjoy the quietness and stillness of the waters.
You will lie down in the richness of green pastures. In that place of rest, He will restore your soul.
God’s Goodness and Faithfulness are Beyond the Reality of This World
In Christ, you will discover the newness of hope and life in a way that can’t be found in relationship, on your job, in any possession you might own, or in any amount of money in your bank account.
The lavish release of the overflowing provision of the Lord and the reality of the Good Shepherd are all encompassing. His companionship, provision, comfort, and love will permeate every aspect of your eternal identity and being.
Don’t Stop at the Quiet Waters and Green Pastures
As you proceed beyond the quiet waters, you will find yourself in the Valley of the Shadow of Death. Though that may sound horrifying, it really isn’t! You are not alone.
Through the darkness, Christ, the light, will never leave your side.
Know before you enter in to the valley, that it is only a shadow. Despite the darkness that you may face, His light will get your through. It is sufficient to move you beyond the shadows and into the light.
Don’t be moved by the reality that you could truly find yourself facing enemies that threaten to take all you own-even your very life.
Never lose sight of he nature of Satan. He is a liar. God is more than enough to get you beyond the threat of hell.
In the face of the enemy’s threat, the Good Shepherd will never leave your side.
In fact, He loves to show off by preparing a table of feasting for you in their midst of your enemies.
This is yet more evidence that, in the face of death and defeat, that the goodness and faithfulness of God will always prevail.
Do not lose sight of your Spiritual Identity! Because you are His child, living His way, in His will, there is nowhere that you can go to escape His blessings. As David concludes in Psalm 23, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”
God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense Are Trul
Do you see it now? God’s goodness and faithfulness are real and tangible. They are fully functional and operational in the very atmosphere that surrounds you, day and night, night and day.
Like everything in God’s economy, you must search them out and acknowledge their reality, in order to receive them.
The threat of death and destruction is only a shadow. They can’t touch you.
God surrounds you. He fills you. Christ keeps you. The Holy Spirit refreshes you. Jesus is your hiding place and your hope. Your God always makes a way of escape for you. Christ will never leave you. He won’t forsake you.
God’s Goodness and Faithfulness are Found in HIS Word
There is no lack of God’s goodness and faithfulness in the Word of God. If you seek them you will find them, if you seek them with all of your heart.
With His promises in your heart and the good Shepherd at your side, you will never again find yourself at the mercy of the god of this world. Dwelling in His house, you are forever above and beyond the destructive capacity of Satan’s minions. By God’s design, more are they who are with us than they who oppose us.
With these words, Comfort Yourself!
